Over the next 25 years, it evolved into a complete underground city with living quarters, kitchens, storage rooms, weapons factories, field hospitals, and command centers.

The tunnels once housed thousands of people who lived almost entirely underground for years, maintaining daily life, marrying, and raising children despite the harsh wartime conditions. During the American War, the Cu Chi area became a heavily bombed free-fire zone, yet the tunnels remained a vital base. In 1988, two sections were opened to visitors, offering a rare opportunity to experience this remarkable part of Vietnam’s history.

For those interested, you may opt to visit the nearby firing range to try firing an M16 or AK-47 rifle (optional activity; fees not included).
